Winter your Whites

As a rule, I don’t like conventional fashion rules. “Don’t wear white after labour day” seems the silliest of them all! White is the ideal neutral substitute for when black is too mundane. Every wardrobe needs a healthy dose of black for sure but black, all too often, fades into the crowd where white gets noticed.

The little black dress is always safe but white has wow. Here, on New Year’s Eve, wearing BCBG Max Azria and shoes by Vince Camuto.

New Year's Eve

I get a steady stream of compliments whenever I wear my white winter coat ordered from ICKL Fashion.

Snowy perfection

White skinny jeans, to me, are a year-round, wardrobe staple. They provide a clean, simple backdrop for busy pieces like this multi-patterned coat and a frilly Zara blouse.

This outfit wouldn’t have nearly as much vibrancy had I chosen black denim instead. These Joe’s Jeans still look great with my tall boots for when the weather gets a bit messy but, for now, my Shoe The Bear booties from Rooster Shoes, in Winnipeg, are my fall favourites.

Of course, there are times when white isn’t appropriate. Puddle jumping with the kids, for instance. Flowy, linen pants and winter boots just don’t mix. But as long as the material is season appropriate then don’t hesitate to winter your whites in full view!
