Why Consign?

I love consignment stores. Not unlike thrifting, I love the thrill of the hunt and that I’m never sure what treasure I’m going to find. But consignment has some added bonuses.

Upon the completion of a closet audit I almost always find pieces that my client can consign. It’s easier to part with a good quality item when you know you can earn some return on your initial investment. There have been times when they have made enough back in consignment sales to cover the cost of my fees! Win win for everyone!

Consigning is a very fashionable way of being a  green and ethical consumer. With so much mass produced, disposable clothing out there using questionable  practices, it feels great to still save money on your wardrobe shopping without contributing to all that. I am all about supporting local and small businesses and these great little boutiques certainly fit the bill. Plus, these treasures need to find their way into fabulous closets and not into landfills. Because that would just be wrong on so many levels!

My favourite reason to shop consignment is the global merchandise! You know when you compliment a person on their clothes and they tell you they bought it in New York or Toronto and how annoying that is? Many of those well traveled items will be resold and the consignment shops are where you can find those pieces, locally! Love that!!!! Those that say that Winnipeg doesn’t have great shopping have, clearly, never been shopping with Style Hunter Fox!

Shopping consignment is a little pricier than thrifting but you get a lot in return. These shop owners take pride in providing a boutique shopping experience with plenty of assistance and care. And they are choosy about what pieces they accept so you are more assured of the quality of the items you are taking home. You’re not going to get that from a thrift store.

Here is a list of my favourite Winnipeg Consignment stores. Check them out. You won’t be disappointed.
