Day of Pink
April 8th was International Day of Pink. Anti-bullying day and my kids happily went to school in head to toe pink and talked about acceptance and individualism. As a parent, I appreciate the importance that schools are putting on this subject! As a stylist I also think, “Yay pink! It’s spring!” Here was my drop off look.Holt Renfrew blazer, Lululemon sweater, Lennard Taylor jeans, Emilio Pucci oversized clutch, Nine West booties and bib necklace from Stella & Dot.
I knew there was a soft pink on the Spring 2015 Pantone Fashion colour report. Called En Plein Air, the trend is cooler, softer colour choices with subtle warm tones. It was time for me to dig in to some Strawberry Ice.
“Both tasty and tasteful, Strawberry Ice is a confection color that evokes a feeling ‘in the pink,’ emitting a flattering and healthy glow.” Leatrice Eiseman. Executive director, Pantone Color Institute. With that confection description, I couldn’t help but flashback to this amazing gown I thrifted last summer that Dano Tanaka photographed for me! Note the Pantone Tangerine in this dress as well! A great colour combo for Spring 2015.
I paid a visit to Luxe & Charm, in Winnipeg’s Osborne Village, where they had a couple of hot little numbers that fit the bill!
Pink is the quintessential colour of femininity but now, with Day of Pink, it is the colour of solidarity and friendship. The colour of standing up for what’s right. The colour that tells the world, ” I am going to be whoever I want to be!”
Wow! Pink is pretty powerful!
